Lower Extremity Blockage Assessment (ABIs)

Ankle-Brachial-Index (ABI)

What is an ABI?

The ankle-brachial-index (ABI), is a non-invasive and very accurate measurement of the presence or absence of arterial blockages in the lower extremities. It is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to that in the arms, and it is calculated by dividing the systolic blood pressure at the ankles by the systolic blood pressures in the arms.
