What is a Carotid Ultrasound?

Carotid ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive imaging test that uses sound waves to create pictures of the blood flow through the carotid arteries in your neck. We then examine those pictures to detect narrowed carotid arteries. Buildup of plaque contracts your carotid arteries, and may increase your risk for stroke.
